Bellbrae kids restore nature

Grade 5 Students from Bellbrae Primary and children from Natur.Ed are helping to restore biodiversity on the trail

The Ridgeline Trail travels through an ecological corridor of significant native biodiversity.

As you walk along the trail from Bellbrae towards Torquay, you pass through remnant vegetation from three different ecological habitats. The corridor also contains locally endangered flora such as Bellarine Yellow Gum and Coastal Moonah. Only 5% of the original population of Bellarine Yellow Gum is left in the world (and we ride past them).

Bellbrae Primary School staff, students and parents, and the Natur.Ed kids have planted over 300 Cypress Daisy-bush, Small-flower Flax-lily and Small-leaved Clematis.

Many thanks to Patagonia, Surf Coast Energy Group, Torquay Landcare and the Surf Coast Shire Council Environment Team for assisting us with trees, stakes, guards and planting gear.

This is amazing and is a first step towards restoring the corridor landscape. It also helped us to learn a bit more about our unique local biodiversity.
